A software platform with one module owned by its own team
Services · Dedicated engineering teams

A team with its own lead for one part of your product.

Verification, DevOps, a platform module or maintenance needs a team that stays and knows the product. A Silurus team with its own technical lead takes responsibility for that workstream for as long as the roadmap needs it, inside your ISO 13485 quality management system and under IEC 62304, for products on the EU and the US market. The engineers work nearshore from Budapest, in Central Europe.

What our teams own

Workstreams a dedicated team takes on

01

Verification and test automation

The team writes and runs the verification tests in every sprint, to the IEC 62304 software safety class (A, B or C, by the harm a software failure could cause) you have assigned, and keeps the traceability current. Design validation of the finished device stays with you, and the team supports it where you ask.

Verification and validation →
02

DevOps and release

The team runs CI/CD, signed builds and test environments and prepares the release records for your release approval.

03

A platform module

The team develops and verifies the module from the agreed requirement to a verified release, year after year. You approve the requirements and the release.

04

Maintenance and field defects

The team handles root cause analysis, fixes and maintenance releases, so your developers stay on the roadmap.

05

Security and SOUP updates

The team assesses, updates and verifies third party components and keeps the SBOM (software bill of materials, the list of every software component in the build) current.

07

Regulatory records

Our regulatory specialists and FDA consultants work with the team on the records for the EU MDR and the FDA.

Situations we are asked to solve

Situation

A programme larger than your own team

An engineering services company won a medical device software programme and needs five to ten engineers, embedded and application, who already work under IEC 62304, ISO 14971 and a client QMS.

How we approach it

A Silurus team with its own technical lead joins under your delivery management and your client's quality system. The team can work in your name towards your client, under NDA and your supplier controls, and is built up in steps as the programme grows.

Situation

Growing a small in house team by six to eight engineers

A device maker needs a larger software team for a new product, and hiring in its own market takes too long.

How we approach it

Silurus Software starts with two or three engineers and grows to the planned size, nearshore from Budapest in the same working day as Central and Western Europe. The team works inside your QMS, your tools and your review workflow.

Situation

Sustaining engineering for a product that stays on the market

A product will be sold for years more, and fixes, security patches and platform updates need a stable team.

How we approach it

A dedicated maintenance team handles problem reports with root cause for your CAPA (corrective and preventive action), SOUP (software of unknown provenance, meaning third party code used in the device) and operating system updates, security patches and planned releases. Our longest team engagement has run over several years.

How it starts

From the first call to a working team

Week 0

First call

The workstream, its interfaces, the standards and the start date are agreed.

Week 1

Proposal

The team, the technical lead and named engineer profiles, with interviews where your process asks for them.

After the proposal

Contract

NDA, framework agreement and order.

2 to 3 weeks after signature

Onboarding

Training on your procedures and access to tools and repositories, then the first engineers start.

Ongoing

Running

The technical lead plans the work with you, reports monthly and is your single contact for the workstream.

Ways to work

Which form fits

A dedicated team fits when

  • A workstream needs a stable team for a year or longer
  • The team should have its own Silurus technical lead

Another form fits when

  • The goal and the deliverables can be written down and the work has an end date: project delivery
  • One or two engineers should work under your own leads: team extension
EU and US

Evidence for both markets

European Union

EU MDR

Every change gets an impact assessment. Where it touches a requirement, a risk or a test, those records are updated for the technical documentation, with our regulatory specialists on the documents.

United States

FDA

The same lifecycle records are the starting point for your FDA software documentation and audits. What a submission contains depends on your device and the submission type, and our FDA consultants help where it needs them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Who owns the code and the documents, and what happens if we end the work?

You do. The code and the documents we write for you are yours once paid. If the work ends, we hand over the repositories, the documentation and the open items, with a handover session for your team or your next supplier.

02

What is the difference between a dedicated team and team extension?

A dedicated team has its own Silurus technical lead and owns a workstream with agreed deliverables. With team extension, engineers join your teams and your own leads direct them.

03

How fast can the team start?

The first engineers can start within two to three weeks of signature, and the team is built up in steps.

04

Does the team work under our QMS?

Yes. The team works inside your ISO 13485 quality management system, under your procedures, design controls and review workflow.

05

How do you keep the same engineers on our product?

Our team engagements run for years. A change in the team is agreed with you before it happens, the incoming engineer goes through the same onboarding on your procedures, and the handover from the outgoing engineer is planned with you.

06

Which time zone and languages does the team work in?

Budapest, Central European time, the same working day as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Benelux, in English and German.

07

How large can a dedicated team be?

It is sized to the work, built up in steps as the workstream grows, with a Silurus technical lead.

08

Can the team work in our name towards our client?

Yes. As a subcontractor the team works under your delivery management, your NDA and your supplier controls, and your organisation is the contact for your client and the work goes out under your name. Silurus Software is qualified as a supplier in your quality system before the work starts. The subcontract is disclosed where your supplier controls, your client's audit or the notified body (the independent organisation that certifies a device under the EU MDR) require it.

09

Which technologies can the team cover?

Application development in C#, .NET, C++, Qt and Python, embedded C and C++ on RTOS and bare metal, imaging and DICOM (the standard for medical images and their exchange), test automation and DevOps.

10

How is a dedicated team billed?

Monthly on the effort, in a statement both sides approve. Where the deliverables of a workstream can be defined in advance, the team can also work in work packages with agreed deliverables.

11

Can the team handle security and obsolescence over the product life?

Yes. The team monitors the SOUP list and the SBOM for new vulnerabilities, assesses and patches them under IEC 81001-5-1 and your change control, and plans the move away from components that reach their end of life.

12

Which cloud platforms do you work with?

We work on Azure, AWS and Google Cloud, whichever the product runs on. The lifecycle is the same on each: the SDKs and libraries go into the SOUP list and the SBOM, the managed cloud services are recorded with their configuration and risk assessment, and the threat model (a structured analysis of how the device could be attacked) covers the cloud part.

13

Can a dedicated team take over a product from another supplier?

Yes. In the first week after the team starts, the code, the build environment and the access to the outgoing supplier are secured. Handover sessions run while the supplier is available, the build is made reproducible on our side, and an IEC 62304 gap analysis (a review of what is missing against the standard) shows the state of the code and the file. The gaps found, such as missing requirements, risk records or traceability, are listed with a plan and agreed with you. The team then takes over maintenance and the next release within your change control.

14

Who approves requirements, risk acceptance and releases?

You do, under your design controls. The Silurus technical lead plans and delivers the workstream, your reviewers and your release authority approve it.
